Fabrications

This series of fabrications explores the idea of human fixation overcoming state of being. Each scene depicts an individual who is isolated and restricted inside their environment. These hyper-real, fragmented stories investigate the long-term effects that our dependences and fixations have on us.
The fabric collages were make using the cyanotype process and were altered to wipe out photographic qualities. The use of natural toners, fruit dyes, coffee and tee, as well as chemical products, such as ammonia, were used to modify the cyanotype print. More destructive materials, sandpaper and steel wool, were used to rip and tear the image.
As the imagery was collaged and treated, each narrative was revealed. The slow pace of the process allowed for layers of toner, paint or thread to conceal features of the figure or their surroundings while the repetitive nature of the process mirrored the obsession and anxiety of each character. Damaged and bare, each image depicts the destructive affect of worry and fixation.
